FAQs for Facelift & Neck Lift

  • What Is a Neck Lift?

Used to remove visible lines of aging in your jawline and neck, a neck lift addresses a range of issues, such as pronounced wrinkling of your neck skin or a "turkey wattle" appearance.

    • Excess fat and the jowl-creating loose skin in the lower face and chin
    • Excess fatty deposits under the chin, affectionately known as the double chin
    • Loose skin on the neck
    • Muscle banding that creates abnormal contours

Often before patients are ready to choose a classic facelift, they find a neck lift beneficial.

  • What Is a Neck Lift Procedure Like?

Here at Advanced Plastic and Hand Surgery, we offer two types of neck lifts.

The traditional neck lift starts with a hairline incision made at the level of your sideburns. The incision continues down and around your ear and then ends at the hairline on the back of your neck. Your tissue is repositioned and your neck and jaw muscles are tightened. Excess skin is trimmed away and the incision is closed with stitches. Often a separate incision is made under the chin for liposuction work.

A limited-incision neck lift generally entails only small incisions made around the ear. Because the incisions are shorter, the results are more limited but can still make an amazing difference in your appearance. If you're suture-shy, this may be the process for you!

  • Is There More Than One Type of Face-Lift?

As with the neck lift, here at Advanced Plastic and Hand Surgery we practice two types of facelift procedures.

The traditional facelift begins with an incision in the hairline at the temples. The incision continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. The doctors may sculpt or redistribute fat away from your face, jowls, and neck. Typically, they also reposition underlying tissue and lift the deeper layers of the face and muscles. Excess skin is then trimmed and the incision is closed.

In a mini-lift, shorter incisions are made at the temples and continue around the ear. Because the results are less dramatic than a full facelift, the mini-lift is usually recommended for patients who are not experiencing a lot of skin relaxation and laxity.
